US Version Textbook $177.00
International Version Textbook $53.00
I am in an International Business class that discusses the positive outcomes of globalization and argues the pros and cons of free trade. The textbook used makes that argument, validating free trade, yet the international copy is prohibited to use in the US.
When I pay for an imported product, I pay more than if I were to live in the country of the originating product. Something doesn't add up here. Other countries are paying less for an imported product. Well, I guess its not imported because the international edition is printed outside the US....McGraw-Hill gives them that right I guess....for a price. Now, if I can get it cheaper, even with shipping from a foreign printer, why isn't McGraw-Hill sending all their rights overseas to lower the cost of textbooks for US students. I am sure there is a profit margin there.
But how about this. It may just be me but because my International Editions are cheap, I hold on to them for reference rather than reselling them back into the system. If other people felt the same way, McGraw-Hill would in fact, make more money because they would be selling more books. I mean, you would have to run the numbers but I'm just sayin'.
Anyway, I have thought about this before but it seems even more ridiculous when the book is an International Business one. Also, I am aware that I am probably missing something, so if I do find out something coherent this semester I will jot it down. Oh and if you have insight, feel free to fill me in.
Oh the economic crisis....Due to it, we have done a bit of house cleaning at the ole office. I think we recycled over two tons of paper. Through stacks and stacks of magazines this was found. I knew it needed to be posted on this day.
I have never made any political statements on here and I don't really consider this to be one either but I figure I would write something.
Today marks the end of George W. Bush's time in the white house. Today is refreshing. People obviously have hope for change but I don't think most really have any idea of what is actually going to happen. I know I don't. I guess now we see. I will say I am excited for the future though. It's so refreshing to hear an adjustment of priorities and somewhat of a grasp of the hopes and desires of the American people as a whole. But to be honest, I felt the same way about Bush in 2001. Is it the reality of the position that changes them....is it me that changed....I guess I don't know; Regardless I am excited for what is to come.
Usually if I want to see a band play the opportunity arises fairly quickly. Most of the less popular acts tend to tour constantly to try to make ends meet and Denver seems to be a fairly viable stop on the tour circuit.
The Killers have been a bit different....very popular, very successful and every time they have come around I have been unable to attend...until this past Saturday. Because of the wait, expectations were high.
Magness Arena is not known for its stellar acoustics. I saw Counting Crows there roughly 7 or so years ago and the sound was so horrible I wanted to leave but spent so much on the tickets I felt I had to stay. I never could get back into them after that. Seemed like the sound was getting tinkered with a bit at the beginning of this show but things appeared on track by the second or third song. The visuals were in full force...LED curtain backdrop projecting sparkling imagery reminiscent of the glitz of their very hometown...oh and then the pyrotechnics and confetti cannons that seem to be customary at all Magness shows.
It was a different sort of show because it was such a production but I had fun, was entertained and I believe that is the point.
The lady is a spinning instructor....in the mornings...one of the classes is at 5:15am. I like to work out in the morning but leading and convincing a whole group of other people to work out with me would be downright impossible. So, I think its pretty cool.
Last night she was getting another certification for teaching a weights class. Some of our friends and I agreed to be her class for the video she had to film to send in. I'm feelin' the reps today. She did a great job though and will do great teaching those classes as well.
Next week I start school again. I am still trying to figure out the best way to fit exercise in on a regular basis during the school/work grind and still spend some time at home. I am thinking lunch might be the only option.
Well, the current recession has taken a bit of a toll on my workplace. It truly is a miracle that I am still employed at this time. That being said, I am very grateful and hope that my current status will continue. The other day I got new business cards with our new logo on them. I guess that means they will at least keep me around until next week.
Since I have been back in school, I always seem to focus on getting back in shape roughly 2 weeks before the new year....right at the end of the fall semester. I don't know what it is about the fall that makes me inactive. I usually make it until October and then its full on school and work until the semester is done. It's weird because I am usually pretty good from the start of the year on, even through spring semester. So I have been somewhat at it for the past few weeks.
Last night I got on the machine of death. She has been unused for the past year and I decided it was time to submit myself to the pain.
The rowing machine has a way of really giving a full body workout if done correctly but at the same time can make you curse at your own mother. Yes, one of the only times that I remember cursing at my mother was during an Indoor Sprint on one of these.
